Former Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s eldest daughter, Harkirat Kaur, got married to Abu Dhabi-based businessman Tejveer Singh Toor. Though his family hails from Punjab’s Doaba region, Tejveer and his parents have been settled in Abu Dhabi for decades. They also have business interests in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Canada.

The wedding celebrations began on February 10 with a sangeet ceremony at The Trident, Gurugram, where Bollywood singer Mika Singh performed. The wedding took place at the Badals’ residence in Sultanpur, New Delhi, on Feb 12. Several prominent political figures attended the event, including Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Nitin Gadkari, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, BJP MP Anurag Thakur, and BJP leader Arvind Khanna. Wedding celebrations had started about a month ago when Sukhbir Badal officially announced his daughter’s wedding. The bhog of an Akhand Path was organised at his native village, Badal, on January 12, followed by a jago ceremony at his house in the village, where singer Afsana Khan performed. Harkirat is the eldest of Sukhbir and Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s three children.

A wedding reception will be held in New Chandigarh on February 17.

Meanwhile, on January 10, the Shiromani Akali Dal’s working committee accepted Sukhbir Singh Badal’s resignation as party president. The party is currently conducting a new membership drive, which has sparked controversy. A seven-member committee, formed by Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, has raised concerns over the drive. The committee is scheduled to meet party working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar on Thursday in Chandigarh.
