While it is no news that Indian weddings know no bounds when it comes to creativity and sparkle, South Indian weddings take it a notch higher. Every detail of South Indian weddings, from elaborate silk sarees and floral hairdos to layers of gold jewellery, is a grand affair. However, some brides are taking things up a notch with unique jewellery pieces that don’t usually come in gold. In a now-viral video shared by Mangalore-based makeup artist, Deeksha Shenoy, a South Indian bride, along with other women of the family, can be seen flaunting bindis made of 916 (22 carats) gold, leaving netizens in awe and disbelief.
Makeup artist shows bride wearing a 916 gold bindi
Deeksha Shenoy, who goes by the username @makeupbydeekshashenoy, shared a video on her Instagram, showing the bride proudly adorning striking bindis crafted from 22-carat gold. As Deeksha gently applies the golden dot on the bride’s forehead using makeup glue, the camera captures the gleaming piece in all its intricate detail. The bride’s overall look, together with her floral hairdo, is a vision of regal elegance, but it’s the bindi that has truly captured the internet’s attention.
The bride’s mother and sister were also spotted flaunting similar gold bindis, creating a glittering visual of tradition-meets-opulence. While gold jewellery is a staple in most South Indian weddings, turning the humble bindi into a high-value ornament is not something we see every day. The video has since gone viral, and netizens are both amused and anxious about the precious bindi and the durability of the glue that held it in place.

Netizens react to the gold bindi
Taking to the video’s comment section, one user wrote, “Why, why?! The middle-class me is in shock and anxiety! What if it falls down?” Another netizen chimed in, saying, “What if it fell down? At this gold rate?” A third user joked about gold bindis becoming a trend and that there will soon be fake gold bindis in the market. The comment read, “Don’t worry, darlings, soon we’ll have fake gold bindis to flaunt with our fake gold jewellery and continue to walk like we own the world, as always.”

Another user shared her first-hand experience of being the bridesmaid of one such bride who wore a gold bindi at her wedding, and it was definitely not a fond experience. Once it fell off, the user had to step up and look for it, and considering the size of these bindis, we can assume it was not the bridesmaid experience she was looking for. The comment read:
“A friend of mine wore this, and I was her bridesmaid. It fell off, and I had to go look for it. It was not on my bridesmaid’s duty list, though.”
