Muslim family shares wedding hall with Hindu couple after rain disrupts ceremony in Pune

NEW DELHI: A Muslim family in Pune’s Wanworie area helped a Hindu couple complete their wedding rituals when heavy rains disrupted their outdoor ceremony on Tuesday evening. The Muslim family, who were celebrating their walima (wedding reception) in an adjacent hall, allowed the Hindu couple to use their venue to perform the traditional saptapadi ritual. The Hindu couple, Sanskruti Kawade Patil and Narendra Galande Patil, were scheduled to get married at Alankaran Lawns at 6.56pm when unexpected rain caused chaos at the venue.”There was chaos around the venue. Nearby, in the hall, the walima ceremony was going on,” said a member of the Galande Patil family.”We requested the Kazi family to allow us to use the hall for some time to perform the ‘saptapadi’ ritual,” the family member added.”Even their guests helped us make arrangements for our rituals on stage. The rituals were performed with full respect for each other’s traditions,” he said. The gesture of interfaith harmony culminated in both communities sharing a feast together. The two newly-wed couples, Maheen and Mohsin Kazi along with Narendra and Sankruti, came together on stage for photographs, marking the memorable occasion.
