As the years ahead look highly promising for the consistent growth trajectory of the wedding market, Mehak Sagar Shahani, co-founder of WedMeGood sheds light on how the Indian wedding is being reimagined.

Excerpts from the conversation:

1. Can you share a brief overview of WedMeGood, its key features, and how the platform has evolved overtime?

WedMeGood was founded in 2014 by Anand and Mehak Shahani. A wed-tech platform, it has revolutionized wedding planning in India by offering a seamless experience for couples. Inspired by the challenges the founders faced while planning their own wedding, the platform began as a ‘wedding planner in your pocket,’ providing options for vendor selection, while ranking high on trustworthiness and genuine reviews.

Over the years, WedMeGood has grown to address every aspect of wedding planning while meeting the changing needs of modern couples. The platform now hosts over 150,000 active profiles of wedding businesses from India and abroad, helping couples find trusted service providers. In addition to wedding planning tools, WedMeGood also offers innovative features such as customizable e-invites and a destination wedding price filter.

2. How is WedMeGood ensuring it is a trusted source for couples planning their weddings and what sets the platform apart from others in this space? Is WedMeGood planning to churn out any new offerings or features on its app in sync with the changing trends in 2025?

WedMeGood is the premier resource for reviews in the wedding industry. The key differentiator is our genuine user reviews for venues and vendors that help customers make informed decisions. Our app is also a one-stop shop for all wedding planning needs, right from planning tools like a checklist to vendor discovery. In 2025, WedMeGood hopes to get more hands on the offline experience as well. While we have so far been a DIY platform, we have realized the need for hands-on support for various customers.

3. How were the Top 50 Wedding Venues selected and what factors were considered for it?

WedMeGood’s Top 50 Stunning Wedding Venues list, unveiled at its 2025 Gala, recognised India’s finest wedding venues. The selection of the top 5 venues included a rigorous assessment on aesthetics, hospitality, culinary expertise, and space flexibility for weddings – each of them rated out of 10. The jury featured some of the biggest names in the wedding industry who have planned weddings or shot at these venues.

4. How is the Big Fat Indian Wedding evolving with India’s growing reputation as a wedding destination in sync with the Wed-in-India campaign?

We are very happy with the PM’s cry for ‘Wed in India’ and this top 50 initiative ties in perfectly with the beauty and diversity that India has to offer. We are now seeing destination weddings within India move beyond the hubs of Rajasthan or Goa and into more undiscovered gems.

5. How are weddings going to impact the travel, tourism and hospitality sector in 2025?

Our data shows that currently, approximately 20% weddings are destination weddings. According to our industry report, this percentage has been increasing annually. This surge in destination weddings is great for the travel and tourism sector. As more properties come up and more cities get connected with airports, we will see newer destinations emerge for weddings. Residential weddings, weddings that happen in the same city but the entire family moves into a hotel, are also rising.

6. Could you elucidate on some key wedding industry trends and challenges in 2025?

Some of the trends in our 2024 annual industry report include the prevalence of lab-grown diamonds, increase in demand for wedding planners, wedding detox bars as an antidote to alcoholic bars and much more.

7. What is the 2025 market outlook?

In 2024 the average wedding budget was Rs 36.5 lakh. We expect the wedding industry in India to continue its strong growth in 2025. As wedding budgets rise amid increasing luxury spending, the demand for destination weddings, personalized experiences, and luxury services is expected to contribute to the market’s growth.
