Indian weddings have long been synonymous with grandeur, vibrant colours and elaborate, multi-day rituals. They are grand cultural spectacles celebrating love, family and heritage, known for several events, vibrant rituals, large guest lists, elaborate decor, music, food and significant spending, symbolising the union of two families.
Now, that extravagance has found a new medium: wedding invitations. These wedding invitations have evolved from simple notifications into curated experiences and storytelling pieces. A recent Instagram reel showcasing a lavish wedding invite has gone viral, reigniting discussions around the growing trend of ornate, luxury wedding stationery in India.

At first glance, it does not look like a wedding card at all. Instead, it resembles a decorative artefact or a miniature display piece, similar to something you might see in a heritage palace or a luxury gift box.
Indian Wedding Invitations Go Viral
The video features a striking invitation box designed like a miniature heritage display. The box opens outward in a dramatic, multi-panel style. Two red panels on either side swing open like doors, revealing the centre of the invitation.
These panels are decorated with intricate patterns inspired by traditional Indian architecture, which are commonly seen in palaces and temples. At the heart of the invitation is a sculpted peacock figure, finished in a dark blue glossy material.
Below the peacock, at the base of the box, is the actual wedding card, delicately placed within the structure, transforming the invitation into a cherished keepsake rather than a simple announcement. The overlay text on the clip read, “Why are Indian wedding invitations so extra?”

Jaipur Wedding Invite Made of Pure Silver Goes Viral
This is just one such example of converting wedding invitations into “extra” or “unique” keepsakes rather than just traditional paper. A Jaipur man has recently gained widespread attention for creating an extraordinary wedding invitation for his daughter, made of 3 kilograms of pure silver. The box-shaped invitation, valued at around Rs 25 lakh, has been designed to be formally presented to the groom’s family.
