DIBRUGARH: A Russian citizen has come all the way toDibrugarhchasing amanwhodupedhim atMayapurin West Bengal.Aleksandr Oblomii, a resident of Tanganrog in Russia, arrived here from Guwahati on October 16 and then filed a complaint against an individual named Ashish Sharma of Dibrugarh.Talking to reporters at the Dibrugarh police station, Aleksandr said he had met Ashish in Mayapur where he visited the ISKCON temple and they became friends.Sharma even invited him to visit Assam. According to Aleksandr, Ashish borrowed Rs 12,500 from him, promising to repay it the following day. Subsequently, Aleksandr accompanied Ashish to Guwahati with the intention of visiting the Kamakhya temple. However, when Aleksandr requested Ashish to return his money as he was short of cash, the latter allegedly refused to return the amount. Frustrated, Aleksandr approached the Dispur Police Station in Guwahati on November 14 taking Ashish along.At the police station, Ashish returned Rs 5,000 to Aleksandr and promised to return the remaining amount later that day. However, he failed to fulfill his promise and allegedly disappeared, leaving Aleksandr in the lurch.“I came to Dibrugarh because Ashish resides here. I have his home address and contact number. I have filed a report with the Dibrugarh Police, and I hope they will take appropriate action. I am running short of cash now and I want my money back,” said Aleksandr.He added, “In Guwahati, we attempted to resolve the matter. We reached a verbal agreement at the Dispur Police Station. He was supposed to repay me Rs 12,500. He gave me Rs 5,000 in front of the police officer and promised to return the remaining amount later that day. However, he vanished after coming out of the police station. I was sitting at Guwahati railway station, contemplating my next move when I noticed a train heading to Dibrugarh and decided to board it.
