Ghaziabad:Thievesbroke into a locked house in Nandgram’s Sevanagar colony in the early hours of Monday and fled with Rs 40,000 cash and Rs 10 lakh jewellery, police said.The owners, who were out of the city to attend a relative’s marriage in Haryana, submitted a complaint on Monday.A disc jockey (DJ), Himanshu Garg, told TOI that his cousin’s wedding was scheduled for November 26 in Delhi.For which, my family had gone to participate in the wedding rituals on November 25.“On Sunday morning, I left home and reached Delhi for my his wedding. On Monday morning, when I reached my house, the main door was open and the lock was lying near the gate. Immediately, I ran inside the house and found all the items were scattered,” he said.“I saw the almirah was opened and cash Rs 40,000, jewellery worth Rs 10 lakhs along with my music system were missing. I was shocked and immediately informed the police about the incident,” he said.ACP Nandgram Ravi Kumar said that on the basis of complaint, an FIR has been registered against unknown persons under the section of 380 (theft) and 457 (Lurking house-trespass or house-breaking by night in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code.Two teams have been formed to investigate the matter.“Initial investigation revealed that the accused had gone inside the house at 2 am on Monday and after an hour, they came out of the house. 72 sovereigns of gold jewellery stolen from house near MaduraiBurglars broke into the house of a paint shop owner near Nagamalai Pudukottai in Madurai district and escaped with 72 sovereigns of gold jewellery. S Rameshkannan, 54, of Venkatachalapathi Nagar, Thuvariman, is running a paint shop at KK Nagar in Madurai city. On November 23, Rameshkannan stayed in his house in Thuvariman and then left for KK Nagar the following day. Gold jewellery weighing 72 sovereigns and a few silver items were stolen. The Nagamalai Pudukottai police registered a case and were investigating.

House amends land reforms Bill, owners of sublet land to benefitThe Odisha state assembly passed a Bill to amend the Odisha Land Reforms Act, 1960, granting land rights to those possessing land sublet to them. The amendment will benefit small and marginal farmers in Cuttack, Puri, and Balasore districts who possess ‘Sikkim’ type land. They will receive record of rights (RoR) or land pattas, becoming rightful owners. The amendment requires compensation of Rs 14,200 per acre to the landowners. The state government approved the amendment on October 19.
