This big fat Indian wedding has forced offices in central Mumbai to go remote

Amid the never-ending grand wedding of entrepreneur Mukesh Ambani’s son Anant Ambani with Radhika Merchant, the employees working in several offices at Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) have been asked to work from home till July 15 because of traffic diversions and restrictions.

Anant is set to get married to Radhika, after an extremely long list of ceremonies, on July 12 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. This will be followed by a Shubh Ashirwad on July 13 and then they will host Mangal Utsav on July 14.

In the wake of the pre-wedding, wedding and post-wedding ceremonies, traffic diversions have been put in place and restrictions have been imposed on the entry of general vehicles in that area, which has now placed the offices at BKC in jeopardy.

What are the traffic restrictions?

A traffic advisory has been issued by the Mumbai Traffic Police for those travelling towards the BKC between July 12 to 15 amid the high-profile wedding ceremony.

Various roads going towards the Jio World Convention Centre are likely to face restrictions on access between 1:00 pm (local time) and midnight from July 12 to 15.

“On July 5, 12th to 15th, a social program is being organised at the Jio World Convention Centre, BKC in Bandra area of Mumbai. In order to avoid inconvenience to the people, vehicular traffic on the road leading towards the Jio Convention Centre needs to be diverted,” read a notification issued by Mumbai Traffic Police on July 5.

Hotel prices inflated, no rooms available as wedding shehnai goes on

The room tariffs of five-star hotels like ITC, The Lalit and Taj have inflated around the area as the wealthiest family in India is making bookings for their guests and team.

These reservations for the wedding have surged the prices of the hotel rooms which are costing as much as Rs 1 lakh ($1196.59) for one night. Even after such exorbitant charges, no hotel rooms are available from July 10 to July 14 in Hotel Trident and Oberoi, according to their official websites.
