As the sun rose September 16, birds sang the happy wedding song for the beautiful bride and groom, Aditi Rao Hydari and Siddharth. The couple tied the knot in a 400-year-old temple. The bride stole the show as she hopped on the minimalist trend. With a stunning golden Sabyasachi lehenga, minimal makeup, unique nose ring and alta! Unlike the traditional marriage ceremonies where brides wear intricately designed mehendi Aditi took the other route.

This comes after her ‘Heeramandi’ co-star, Sonakshi Sinha, too opted for a simple alta for her wedding with Zaheer Iqbal on June 23.

Aditi Rao Hydari’s special crescent moon alta -here is the meaning

Aditi Rao Hydari ditched the regular mehendi, or the red hues, or the statement heavy jewellery and lehengas. And as we believe, every bride is gorgeous in her own right. Be it 40 kgs of lehenga or a simple saree, it’s the bride’s right to be her own person on her special day.

Bibbojaan’s special alta design grabbed our attention and as we did a little digging, we concluded it to have a special meaning attached to it as well. Like the sophisticated grace that Hydari carries, she wore a simple and elegant red alta crescent moon and dots around the tips of her nails on her fingers. Often, these simple and small nitigrities entail special symbolism.

In Hinduism, alta holds a deep meaning. Different cultures have different associations to make. Alta is often applied during special occasions as it is believed to evoke positivity, invoke blessings. The crescent moon is said to be a symbol of timelessness. And well, the bond of love, friendship is indeed a timeless emotion to capture.

When Sonakshi Sinha talked about the idea behind her alta

Sonakshi Sinha recently tied knot with her longtime beau Zaheer Iqbal. In an interview with Galatta India, she opened about her minimal alta look. The actress admitted that wearing an alta was a comfortable and easy choice. She mentioned how it saved time as brides often need to sit for long hours for the application of mehendi. Further, Sonakshi said that Zaheer too hated the smell of mehendi. She made a special mention about how to play the character of ‘Fareedan’ in ‘Heeramandi’ she was required to wear alta everyday and she wanted to carry that beautiful element for her special day too.

For their wedding ceremony, Aditi Rao Hydari wears a handwoven Maheshwari tissue lehenga paired with a Benarasi tissue dupatta from the archives of the Sabyasachi Heritage Textile collection; accentuated with Sabyasachi Heritage Jewellery. Siddharth wears a Sabyasachi silk kurta and a handwoven Benarasi dhoti with a veshti of his own.
